Birdsell Mansion is a beautiful old space that is in the process of being reclaimed for artists and community. The ideas and installations in the mansion are fascinating to me. I decided to bring my old Hasselblad and photograph a few of the artists involved in the house that inspired the project. We set up in the middle of winter with very little heat, and my subjects were gracious as we shot and discussed their art.
This isn't the final step in this process! I'm working hard to learn darkroom printing, and my goal is to print these photos and create a small exhibition! There is something totally unique about seeing photos in a larger size on the wall. The detail and the richness is beautiful, and I can't wait to invite you to check them out.
Wilson's Reservoir at Ignition Music
www.IgnitionMusic.net is such a great place to see a show. I had fun shooting this with Tri-X film pushed to 1600 in shooting and development. I used to have a hard time seeing how film shooters got the photos they did with what seemed like a more limited medium, but film is surprisingly flexible with some experience. Self-developed, self-scanned.
John and Sarah are married!
The last wedding of 2014! it was a grey day, but a beautiful wedding, and I loved working with Sarah and John. Wish you guys the best and thanks for making us feel like part of the family :-).
New Year's Eve 2015.
Kiss it in. Kiss it in. Birdsell Mansion, South Bend, IN. Shot on a Canonet QL17 and Tri-X film.
Best of the rest 2014
A good photo helps you to dissect a moment but my favorite ones help relive it. These are the photos that help help relive my photo year in 2014.
Best of Weddings 2014
I've had such a fun year with weddings! Here are a few of my favorite photos from 2014. I've had some serious trouble trying to narrow it down. So here you go. 2014 in no particular order. Bring on 2015!
Gracie Lyons
She is former Miss Elkhart County, current Miss Central Indiana, and future Miss Indiana contestant as well as founder of Mentoring Matters. Gracie Lyons is on her game. We played around with some unique gear including a 20 dollar 400mm lens from the 60's and a medium format film camera from the same era. I'm loving the results. www.gracielyons.com
A quick Free People test shoot with my new Fuji x100t for Jule's Boutique in Goshen, IN. It was cold, rainy, and getting dark, but Sam was awesome to work with as always, and the camera preformed admirably, even in the tricky conditions. I call it a win!
Dimitri
Pulled some last min headshots together for Dimitri who is applying to be a music educator in Shanghai. I wish him the best of luck with his application! I visited Shanghai a few years ago and really liked it. I would love to go back sometime and explore more.
Cover Family
I photographed Brogan Cover for a senior shoot a few months back so it was cool to get a call about family photos for the Cover's. What a great family! It was cold, but they were laid back and awesome to work with.
